Energy efficiency
Energy efficiency is in everyone's interest, it helps to protect the environment including the air we all breathe and it means reduced fuel bills for you, the consumer.
It is also a political issue with changes in the legal duties of installers designed to help the government meet its targets for reducing carbon
dioxide emissions.
Great improvements in efficiency can be made to
domestic central heating and hot water storage, by installing or updating system design and controls as defined by building regulations part L, part of whichis the type of boiler you should have installed.
From 1st April 2005 it is a requirement of the
Building Regulations Part L1 (Conservation of Fuel and Power) that any replacement or new gas fired boiler be SEDBUK band A or B, which is a measure of its efficiency. Only condensing type boilers can currently reach SEDBUK band A or B, non-condensing boilers must not be fitted except in certain exceptional circumstances, in which case a copy of a completed assessment procedure form must accompany the installation. Where possible, Gas-Safe will only fit recommended boilers (SEDBUK A RATED)in line with best practice.
Gas-Safe takes future legislation very seriously.
Every new appliance fitted by Gas-Safe will be
registered with the local buildings control body, who will issue you a certificate certifying that
the installation is building regulation compliant.
A professional installer also has a duty of careto advise you on ways in which your system could be upgraded,in terms of design and controls, to reduce your fuel bills and your carbon emissions.
This is standard policy for Gas-Safe.
